Attorney General Eric Holder sent a letter to Kansas Governor Sam Brownback this week attacking legislation recently passed in the State that nullifies unConstitutional Federal gun laws.
Kansas’s response, “Bring it on.”
Brownback replied asserting that Kansans hold dear their right to bear arms and State sovereignty. And Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Constitutional law professor who helped draft the law, handily poked holes in Holder’s assertions that Kansas had overstepped its legal authority in a separate letter.
“A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose,” Brownback wrote.
Referencing the Constitutional guarantee of State sovereignty in the 9th and 10th Amendments, he went on, “The people of Kansas are likewise committed to defending the sovereignty.”
Brownback concluded, “This is not a partisan issue in Kansas.”
